Your name has been chosen...you have won a prize, and you have a choice.
Which prize do you choose.
Do you choose the package that looks like it came from a fine gift store or
the package that looks like it came from the flea market?
Both of these packages could contain the exact same $10 photo frame from Walmart, but even after they are opened, the frame that came from the better looking package will be perceived as more valuable.
It is human nature to assign a higher value to things that come in attractive packaging.
A professional home stager can help people increase the perceived value of their house for sale by improving it's appearance. Once you decide to sell your home, it becomes a product and must be packaged and marketed strategically.
It isn't that difficult a concept, the more visually appealing your house is, the higher it's perceived value will be. Buyers are looking for move-in ready. They are looking for a home that has been well maintained and cared for. They are looking for features that justify the asking price.
They are looking for the most attractive package.
How impressive is your wrapping?

Sharon, Nice post. I love a Christmas tree with lots of nicely wrapped presents much better than more presents not so nicely wrapped.
Sharon, this would be a great visual idea to use at RE office presentations. Mind if I use it?
Very nice analogy!! Make me want to go Christmas shopping too!!
Sharon: Great concept and nicely written post. Thank you for sharing it. I'm getting tired of my old beauty contest analogy. I might have to switch gears and go for the giftwrap.
Susan, great post. I like your analogy. Hits home for the sellers - Understandable.
Oh Sharon, that's a simple & straight forward and great analogy! love it and I'm going to borrow it if you don't mind.
On another note your holiday wrapping analogy reminds us the holidays will here in no time. I spent yesterday afternoon with my friend who happens to be a fabulous floral designer. We were in one of the wholesale places and they were getting ready for a show. Oh all the beautiful Christmas products......of course I could not leave without a few purchases!
Jimmy I am really particular with my Christmas gift wrap...who would have guessed! I pretty much "stage" the whole tree area like a Martha Stewart crazy person, you know, with coordinating paper and ribbon. It has to be just right!
Donna I don't mind at all if you use the idea. I actually brought those two presents to my BNI networking meeting last week and used this analogy to illustrate the benefits of staging.
Cathy I love to wrap the gifts, but I don't really enjoy the Christmas shopping. I'm not ready for that yet!
Yes, it's all in the packaging. That is a slogan of Kym Hough, Staged-to-Sell.com "It's all in the packaging". Andy you are right and so is she.
Michelle Thanks! I appreciate it. Switching it up a bit every once and awhile is a good thing. The package analogy is pretty basic and very hands on.
Michele It is easily understood and the point gets made. People just need to have it shown to them in a way they can easily relate to.
Cynthia Thanks, you are more than welcome to use the idea...you can get creative with it...go for it!
Great post But do you take what they have or provide your own. I have heard a lot about staging but here we only have one company that does it and she doesn't seem that busy could be the market. I really love showing homes at Christmas time because of this very thing. I seem to go to more open houses and viewings around that time of year.
Terrylynn Kym knows what she is talking about!
Charles Christmas is a beautiful time of year, but you have to be very careful with a house for sale not to go too far with the decorations.
Sharon- You just inspired me to try something. We have a drawing at our Realtor association meeting, and I like to bring small gifts in every once in awhile to give away. I could bring two of the same thing, but wrap one in pretty gift wrap with a bow and put the other in a paper lunch bag. Then I could have the first person whose name is called choose which one they want. Watch it be a man who thinks the lunch bag has food in it and chooses that one. I'll figure something out! Maybe I'll put it in a WalMart bag instead. Thanks for the great idea!
Sharon, How odd is that, I just reblogged a post that I did from September 2007 on the same subject! Great minds think alike! http://activerain.com/blogsview/682051/The-Perception-of-You
Well phrased - love the big red bow!
Elaine Great idea. The analogy works great as a visual. It is possible someone could screw it up, you just never know! There is one in every crowd. Let us know how it goes.
Julea I can see why you reblogged it, it is an awesome post. We aren't the only "great minds" out there...Kym Hough has been using this as a slogan.
Angela Thanks, I made the bow in Picnik. I use the site all the time. It is very user friendly.
