Replacing Family Photographs With a Gift to the Buyer

A recent staging job has resulted in a creative way to replace personal photos.  This home had a beautiful arrangement of photos on a wall.  The family photos had to go, but the arrangement really worked well there.

Wall Photographs

Here is a photo of what the wall arrangement

looked liked.  The wall would have been so empty,

not to mention having to fill all the nail holes, if we

removed all the pictures.  Wall art to fill this space would

have been expensive.

I took some photos around the property and emailed them to the seller.  She printed them and put them in the frames in place of the family photos.  They look beautiful!

As a personal touch and bonus,  the whole arrangement could be left with the house for the new owners.

Here are the photos we used:

GatestreamAddress sign

Moss covered stonesstone steps

I used a personal touch to de-personalize the wall arrangement!

Interesting -- I have always thought that was a great idea when I have seen it done on television shows.  I think it's a great way to draw attention to additional selling features on the property.

Great idea, personal photos are often a distraction to buyer, good job

Nice idea- always looking for something to do with the space when the family photos are gone. Thanks!!!

Tori   Exactly...highlighting the positive features of the property using close up shots of the outside details.  The pictures give a feeling of history and charm to the house.

Michael  and Rob  Thank you!  Anything we can do to make the house more appealing to the potential buyers!

Sharon - those are great photos of the property!  This is a terrific suggestion as it also conveys a sense of pride about the home.  Thanks for the tip.

You are just too clever, I use photos from great books, or luxury travel magazines. No one ever knows.

Sharon- I think you are completely brilliant! In the case of my bachelors, I could have taken photos of someone else's house!

Sharon - What a simple but sreative idea - Who wouldn't love having pictures of their new home already hung in frames on the wall when they move in and what a great way to show the property in other seasons to potential buyers. Win - win - I can't wait to hear your presentation at our sellers seminar on Thursday.

Gabriele and Gina and Kym:    So happy you love it!  Start looking around your clients' properties now for photo opportunities!

Elaine  Come on now, I'm sure there was some plant or rock or tree or something you could have taken a close up of...get those creative juices flowing!  That "someone elses house" could be an interesting idea, too.  Having photos of your client's homes inside other client's homes...having all your staging jobs connected and intermingled...a little incestuous!  I'm way off topic, now...thanks for the "brilliant" compliment.

Judy  Other seasons is a wonderful idea.  I usually suggest to sellers that they put out a small photo album with photos of the property in all different seasons, but using the photos to replace family photos would be awesome.

I'm looking forward to the seminar and meeting you in person!

I love this idea!  Not only is it an affordable solution to providing artwork, but it also provides a personal memory of the property to the sellers once they move.  Nice.

Nancy  Glad you love it!  It also provides a keepsake for the new owners!  Thanks for commenting.

Very clever. I was doing a model home open house this weekend and they used candid pictures of actors with their family members. It almost made it look like this was the celebrities home.
Posted by Terri Hayley (Keller Williams) over 2 years ago

Karla   Thank you, I appreciate the comment.  It is a beautiful property, the stream runs along beside it, such a soothing sound!

Terri  Candid pictures of actors must have been fun, that's a cool idea, but I would think that would be a distraction to some extent.  Were people spending much time looking at the photos or just kind of noticing and moving on?  Do you think it was a successful idea that you might try?

Sharon - great idea! I love nature shots, they make great art work. I took some nature shots when i was on vacation to make artwork out of them. Thanks for for reminding me.

Tanya  You are so welcome, glad I could be helpful!

Julie  I hope you give it a try, it is nice to have your own photography as artwork!

Posted by Sharon Tara New Hampshire Home Stager (Sharon Tara Transformations) over 2 years ago
I haven't used my photography as art yet, but I am thinking about it. I am not sure what needs to be done technically to be able to enlarge the picture to a wall hanging size.
Posted by Julie Kippen Vernal Utah Real Estate (Century 21 Dart Realty) over 2 years ago

Julie  I opened my photos in Adobe and cropped them, using 8x10 as the crop size.  That's all I did and they printed fine.  If you have any trouble check out the photography group here on AR.  I'm sure there are plenty of people to help you there.  Good luck.

Chris  Thank you!  I actually have used empty frames.  There is a photo on my profile page showing some empty frames lined up on a shelf.  I do prefer the photos, much warmer!

Sharon,

This was a real creative solution for de-personalizing the wall of family photos!  The mossy rocks and natural creek really make for great nature pic's, lucky for you they happened to be in the clients own yard!  Great idea!
