You Will Pay One Way or The Other...There is No Such Thing As A "Miracle Pill"

Who knew there were so many sexual performance issues out there?  Have you watched television lately?

pill bottlesThe media is constantly promoting new wonder drugs for every possible condition.  Weight loss without exercise or dieting is promised for lazy people who don't want to give up fatty foods and desserts.  Eat what you want, no effort on your part required...just take the pills.

No need to eat healthier to lower your cholesterol when there is a pill to lower it.  You don't have to give up fried and spicy foods if you have acid reflux...

just take a pill beforechili dog you eat the chili dog with extra onions.

In today's quick fix, instant gratification society people want what they want immediately and want to pay very little, if anything, for it.  More and more people just aren't willing to invest the money, time, or effort to achieve the better end result.

What surprises me is that people don't seem to understand, or maybe they just don't care, that drugs may relieve the symptoms but they are only band aids and the core problems are not getting resolved.

In the long run we are only hurting ourselves and we will pay...one way or another. headache Have you read the disclaimers and list of side effects on the drug advertisements?

What does all this ranting have to do with real estate, you ask?

Today's buyers have a lot to choose from and they are choosing wisely.  They are buying the homes that appeal to them emotionally.  They are buying the well maintained, clean, stylish, warm and welcoming homes and they are getting them for a lower price.

Home sellers can be their own worst enemy.  Many sellers want to sell their house for top dollar, but are willing to put forth very little energy or spend very little money on improvements.  When the house sits unsold, month after month, they blame "the market."   It is ironic that every day it sits unsold; it is costing them the precious money they didn't want to spend in the first place.

Smart sellers, who realize that it takes a lot of work to prepare a home for sale, hire an experienced realtor, a professional home stager and understand the value of an investment in home improvement.  By putting together a strong sales team, putting in the time, and spending a little money the seller's house will spend less time on the market and sell for more money.

There is no miracle pill you can take to ease the stress of selling a house, just good old fashioned hard work and common sense.   If only our medical care was that simple!

Awesome philosophy and comparison. My major is Alternative Medicine in college (my next major is an MBA), and see your point clearly. I have rejected two listings in the last month because the sellers homes were just way too cluttered and asking for a ridiculous price and they did not want to take the time to 'stage' it nevertheless price their home right. Sellers just don't get it and it's frustrating. If only they would listen to professional advise from a professional their home would have a higher chance of selling. Headache? Who needs it, not me! Side effects: Rapid heart rate, insomnia, irritabality, to say the least. Remedy? Walk away...

Its human nature at its best. Learn to make it work for you as you know what people say. Many times they do not believe themselves. Good blog, we have become a retail society.  That however will also change as we move forward. Happy Mardi Gras!

You're so right.   You need to hire an experienced realtor / and or stage to help stage the home in today's market.    The home I just listed needed help in the master bedroom, so I just was at Target looking for the correct assessories to make it look better.  I can't wait to bring the items over to the home in the morning.

Great Post - we live in a fast food society!  And of course there needs to be a drive-thru!!  You offer drive thru staging right with a dollar menu right?

Diana  Good for you turning down those listings.  So many others take the listing anyways and suffer through the stress and frustration.  I don't think it is worth it.  Sometimes you just can't force people to do what you know is good for them!

Eric  Happy Mardi Gras right back at ya!  Let's keep moving forward.  Thanks for the comment.

Judy  Its so exciting when you purchase new items and you know how great they are going to make a room look.  I love all my "afters" and I totally understand your excietment over getting over there to make the improvements.

Becky  Sometimes it feels like drive-thru staging when you have so many ideas and the sellers will only agree to a few of them.  Its frustrating when you know what could be but don't get to actually do it.

Sadly, this tends to be the mindset of a lot of people:  what can others do for me?  Instead we should be thinking:  What can I do to benefit my situation?  It takes work (and sometimes a financial investment) to receive quality results.

Kristina  The mindset in NH is particularly difficult.  Staging is pretty new here and still unfamiliar to most sellers.  Surprisingly, only a handful of realtors are using it to its full potential.  The good news is that the people who do use it, have the advantage!  Thanks for the comment.
