Today I'm attending a baby shower for my nephew, Eric, and his wife Janelle. They are expecting their first child next month. As they prepare to welcome their son, Dylan, I am remembering when Eric was little and one time in particular that Eric taught us adults a thing or two about Road Rage.
My parents had (a very young) Eric in their car, and for whatever reason another driver felt the need to express himself and send a message to Dad.
As he passed by, the other driver beeped his horn and sent his message using only one finger.
Eric asked why the man did that and wanted to know what it meant.
My mother explained as best she could that the man was angry and his hand gesture was not a very nice thing to do.
They soon caught up with the "angry man" and as they were passing by Eric had a reply for him....
Eric waved to the man and yelled out:
"God bless you....and your finger too."
From the mouth's of babes!
Now I'm going to go bake some very special cup cakes for a very special couple's first baby shower...

I think I like Eric.............remind him of that story today when you see him Sharon.........it's awesome!
Congratulations to Eric and Janelle on their soon to be "new arrival" Dylan.
Sharon - that's a cute story! My two year old says the sweetest things I have ever heard!
Sharon,
What a wonderful story and inspiring also. We all should do that with everyone every day that may annoy us or be annoyed with us in some way. All the best and thank you for sharing this.
Sharon,
I love it...what a great kid...hope he taught the jerk a thing or two!
What a sweet little boy, thats how all of us should respond.
Sharon,
Love what you shared that was great.
we need some of that in miami. a driver lost his life 2 days ago in a road rage incident
That's a great story. Kids have the best outlook on life. And, wonderful perspective.
Thanks Sharon that is a nice story for a Sunday, the best reaction to an angry person is often the complete opposite of what they are dispensing.
What a great story. Children are always the ones who put us back on the right path!
Sharon,
Eric will be a great dad, cute story!
Roger: He has always been a very giving and caring kid. I did mention the story to him today and he said he does "kind of" remember it.
Betsy: When they speak it just tugs at the heart strings!
Ron & Alexandra: We should take a lesson from Eric's innocence. It would really surprise the "angry" person if we did and probably disarm them.
Lori: If nothing else, it would make them think!
Chuck: I agree!
Jon: Thank you.
James: What a terrible waste. I'm sure it was over something trivial too.
Debbie: They are still innocent until the world gets a hold of 'em. If only we could remain that way and treat each other better throughout our life.
Steve: True. Don't stoop to their level. Hit them with some love and kindness and totally freak 'em out.
Debra: Pure innocent wisdom!
Tracy: Yes he will! They got a lot of great stuff today. It was a really nice shower.
Excellent............it won't be long before Eric will be telling Dylan stories...........great family you've got there Sharon.
Roger: It won't be long! I can't believe one of my grandsons is already one and the other turns one next month. Goes by so fast! I do have a great family! On a sad note, I had to say goodbye to Gidget and Idol today. They fly back to Florida tomorrow. Won't be back till next May. Lots of tears shed. It is so tough for Mom to leave the babies.
Hi Sharon, what a great story to share, thank you!
Sharon- I love this and such a great reminder for us to take the high road when these things happen. They may have things going on in their lives where they need all the compassion they can get.... on the other hand they may just be a jerk. And, in that case, better not to stoop.
Barbara: Glad you liked it!
Kathy: So often anger is just an indication of stress and unhappiness in their life. A little compassion can make a great difference.
Out of the mouths of babes! Children are so pure, there are lots of life's lessons that we could learn from them.
Janna: And, I get to start all over with "cute sayings" now that I have grandbabies that are starting to talk. Just barely, but close to talking. I can't wait to hear what they have to say!
What a great story Sharon...does he know Auntie Sharon posted it ??
Sharon,
I had forgotten that Eric did that!!!
Do you remember when he asked Steven (our brother for all of you out there) if he had any money?
Steven (thinking that he was a "greedy little bugger") said "NO."
Eric reached into his own little pocket and gave Steven $5.
Steven was humbled by a 5 year old but "fell in love with Eric" also that day!
Thanks for posting that!
Linda
Linda: Eric has always been a very giving and loving guy...he will be a great dad.
Hi, Sharon. You have the most wonderful, loving family! You do a great job of chronicling your history and sharing your special moments.
Leslie: I do have a loving family! Thank you for the nice compliment...I enjoy sharing my happy memories!
I am so glad I went back to the posts of yours that I missed. This one is absolutely precious! Children are amazing and what a wonderful thing to remember today! Congratulations on the new family member!
Laura: I'm glad you came back too! Thanks for the congrats!
