Market Square Day in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is an annual event created by Pro Portsmouth, Inc. thirty three years ago to celebrate the beautification of downtown Portsmouth. Each year, on the second Saturday in June, downtown Portsmouth becomes vehicle-free from 9:00 - 4:00. Traffic is replaced with vendors, entertainment stages, and lots of fabulous food.

New this year, is the addition of a Children's Block Party area, with vendors, performers, and activities especially for children.
The Market Square Day 10K Road Race kicks off the festivities at 9:00 am. There are 2000 runners this year.
It is estimated that 60,000 - 80,000 people will attend.

Sharon,
What a great local event! I hope the weather is perfect.
Irene: Thanks! The weather is supposed to be great. I look forward to it. I want more of the delish steak tips and strawberry shortcake I got last year!
Sharon
Sounds like it will be a fun day. have a good time.
Good luck and success.

Looks like a great event. We have the annual "Dairy Festival" in my town the first Saturday and it was a bit hot this year, but also a great event. One of these days when I'm retired and traveling I'll have to be in Portsmith on the second Saturday in June... chances are it will be cooler than the first Saturday in June In Eatonton, GA.
Sharon- I love those kinds of local events. Hope you have a fun time!!!
Kathy: My daughter and I took Zack to see Auntie Ashley run in the race, but it started raining shortly after she crossed the finish line. We never did get downtown for the other festivities.
Lou: Thank you!
Tammy: Last year it was pretty hot and sunny. Today, not so good. It was great weather for the run, no sun and cool. It was not so good for the rest of the events though.
So sorry the sun goddess didn't visit your town today Sharon but glad to read Ashley made to to the finish line before the rain.
LOVE the sign!!!
Cyndee: I am very proud of Ashley, she didn't get her love of running from me, that's for sure!
Sounds like it was a good time. I wish I had more time to visit, just too busy this year!
Bill: Busy is a good thing! The weather was not so good anyways.
Looks like a wonderful community event to participate in. Now tell me, how did you get your photos embedded in your blog like that????
Janna: It is a great event. I wish the weather had been better. As for the pictures: I used the "collage" feature in Picnik. It is really easy. You combine the photos and save it as one. So here, in AR, each grouping is considered just one photo and embedded like any other photo. IF you need any more info or help, just email me.
Hi, Sharon. This is the kind of thing I have to go to with girlfriends....my husband hates having to find a parking place, heat and crowds. Sound like a fun day to ME!
Leslie: I guess I'm lucky that my husband enjoys these types of events. Out with the girls is fun too!
Sharon, that sounds like an awesome event! I love those kind of street fairs!
Mike: Thanks! I especially love the food at events like this.
